Spring Hill is growing out into its rural edges. In 2024 the city rezoned rural residential land at 199th Street and Renner Road for new development. Before ground like that is built on, the trees and brush have to come off.
Nickell's Land Management is based in Parker, and Spring Hill is part of our service area. We clear land with a skid loader and an excavator. That covers lot clearing before a build and forestry mulching on brushy acreage. Call or text (620) 252-9314, and we will look at the job and put the quote in writing.

Spring Hill sits on the line between Johnson County and Miami County. City Hall and the historic Main Street district are on the Johnson County side. The Census Bureau's 2025 estimate puts 6,730 residents there and 4,047 on the Miami County side. That makes 10,777 people, up from 7,952 at the 2020 Census.
Most homes in Spring Hill are young. Census survey estimates put the median year built at 2007. About two in three homes went up in 2000 or later. The Census Bureau's building permit survey shows 370 new single-family homes permitted here in 2025.
The city's 2024 annual report lists final plats for Wiswell Farms and Garrett Ranch, among others. A preliminary plat for The Village alone covers 660 lots. When a tract like that opens up, clearing comes before site preparation for a new build.
The federal soil survey maps most of Spring Hill in four soils: Bucyrus, Chillicothe, Woodson and Arisburg. Woodson and Arisburg are rated somewhat poorly drained. In a normal year, Woodson soil has a perched water table 6 to 24 inches down from November to June.
Ground like that can stay soft well into spring. We check how the machines will get in when we look at the job. Across most of town, the soil survey puts bedrock more than 3 feet down.
Spring Creek and Sweetwater Creek both cross the Johnson County part of town. Rain that falls on Spring Hill drains more than one way. County watershed maps put part of town in the Marais des Cygnes basin, and part in the Blue River's headwaters.
Federal flood maps put only a small share of the city in a flood zone. Inside those zones, the city's floodplain rules call for a floodplain development permit before grading or fill. Community Development is the city office to ask.
Spring Hill City Lake was built in the 1950s as a reservoir for the city's water supply. On acreage around town, we handle building a new pond and cleaning out an old one that has silted in.
Inside the city, curbside yard waste pickup takes brush only in tied bundles, 18 by 48 inches. Regular pickup takes up to eight bags or bundles a week. A cleared tree line or a wooded lot makes far more brush than that.
Burning a big pile takes planning. Inside the city, burn permits come through Fire District 1 of Johnson County. On the Johnson County side, state rules ban almost all open burning in April. Burning brush from land cleared for development also needs prior approval under the state air rules.
Forestry mulching turns the brush into mulch that stays on the ground. On a lot that needs the roots out, the excavator pulls the trees and we pile them on site. What happens to that pile next is your call, under the rules above.
